Three school districts around the Ozarks and Kansas City joined forces in a unique initiative to connect students from rural and urban schools and share their culture through art and food. A Joplin teacher is taking her love of science to the national stage. Karisa Boyer is one of just three teachers across the country chosen as a Science Ambassador. It’s a project of Science News Learning, which provides current scientific research to incorporate into classroom learning. Three students from Lindbergh High School recently earned a perfect ACT score of 36, the highest possible score on the ACT college placement exam. Lindbergh seniors William “Liam” Goddard, Carson Kienzler and Cindy Yao each earned a perfect score on the ACT earlier this year. A perfect ACT score of 36 is quite an accomplishment. Less than one percent of students who take the test nationwide attain a perfect score.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office named an honorary member to the department at the Mid-Buchanan homecoming game Friday. A new, furry buddy at Warren E. Hearnes Elementary is helping to make students' days brighter. The first therapy dog in the history of the Charleston school is 100% certified. According to Hearnes Elementary administrator Amy Smotherman, who introduced Georgia to students on Sept. 14, the youngsters at the lower elementary school already adore Georgia. Georgia acquired her American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Certification and finished a year of training to prepare her to work with students at the school, according to Smotherman. Georgia is also specifically certified as a therapy dog.
