High School students in Perry County are hosting two events in December to raise seed money for their start-up businesses. The program is a true partnership between the schools and the business community. Reeds Spring high school students are seeing the product of a collaboration between the theater and engineering programs. Engineering students have spent the past semester working on a rotating stage for an upcoming musical performance. Flags, ribbons, and student artwork in red, white, and blue decorated Columbia's New Haven Elementary School as it opened its doors recently to parents, family members, and veterans. For the first few hours, students had breakfast with guests and attended an assembly for the school’s 32nd annual Veterans Day celebration. The Jefferson City School District partnered with the Missouri National Guard Family Program for the Halloween Candy Give Back. Multiple schools in the Jefferson City area gave back to veterans with a friendly competition. Students donate their leftover Halloween candy, which gets gathered up and weighed. Each school, classroom, and student competes to bring in the most candy as part of the competition.

Build my Future is an event for high school students in Missouri and surrounding states, where they get hands on learning experiences from the construction industry to see if that is a career path they'd want to take. This year was Build my Future's first year in Bethany and more than 40 area high schools brought more than a thousand high school students to get the opportunity to know what kind of jobs the construction industry is looking for, and to see if anything sticks with them for the future.

For the second year in a row, Kickapoo High School is home to Missouri's state champion marching band. The Kickapoo Golden Arrow Band, under the direction of Aaron Scriven, competed on Saturday, Oct. 19, at the state's Marching Association Championships in Columbia.

The American Heart Association organized its first STEM Goes Red event in mid-Missouri, to encourage eighth grade girls from Boone County to take up careers in STEM. The Royals are playing for a chance to win a championship, but dozens of students already consider the players Classroom Champions. From public safety to drought problems, a national science and technology contest is looking for Missouri middle and high school students to participate. Samsung’s “Solve for Tomorrow” STEM Competition includes $2 million in technology and classroom supplies to participating schools. The contest empowers public school students in grades 6-12 to leverage STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) to develop innovative solutions that address pressing local issues in their communities.

Amara Jackson, this year's National FFA president, is one of six representatives for the organization traveling around the country meeting high school students. The goal of the group's travels is to interact with what they call the "grassroots" of the organization by visiting different communities with FFA programs. Jackson's travels brought her to the Macon School District, where she met with students from the district and surrounding schools visited as well.
