Virtual Spring Regional Meetings

In this unprecedented time, we regret that we are unable to convene the regional meetings in person.  Nevertheless, we are able to provide most of the content that was planned for the meetings. The program topics were developed based on your feedback in the 2019 Spring Regional Meeting evaluation.  You may view any or all of the programs that are of interest.

Board Member Certification
To receive core meeting and strand credit for Advanced, Master or Distinguished board member certification, view a program and submit either the associated Board Member Verification Form or Governance Team Verification Form. You may earn strand credit for any and all programs you view and submit the corresponding verification form.

Addressing the Impact of Childhood Trauma Through Mental Health Intervention

This program describes how Jefferson Co. R-7 is addressing their student’s needs through coordinated mental health intervention services and resources that result in increased availability and access to services for students and families. Learn how they are collaborating with school districts and service providers in the county to expand this model to other districts and throughout the state.

Breaking Bad: A Group Conversation on Real Challenges School Boards Face

Using true-life scenarios, participants will analyze the practices of boards demonstrating a range of governance practices – effective boards, troubled board, positive practices, bad habits, etc. Participants will develop recommendations for improving practices to address these challenges and learn about research-based effective practices.

The Impact of Childhood Trauma on Learning and Behavior

This program addresses mental health supports in education and foundational initiatives related to being trauma-informed. The process Francis Howell School District has implemented in the past few years is described.

It’s an Emergency! What’s the Plan?

This program emphasizes the importance of Emergency Operations Planning and the key elements to consider in a district’s plan. Ensuring sufficient resources, adequate staff to implement the plan, sufficient training for staff, current policies to support the plan and safety issues are addressed.

About MSBA’s Center for Education Safety

This program is primarily intended for school safety coordinators, school resource officers and other school district personnel responsible for safety initiatives. It provides an overview of the training and resources available to support and enhance school district safety and security initiatives. This program is not eligible for board member or governance team credit.
