Due to a high volume of applications for the first School Safety Academy to be held in August, MSBA’s Center for Education Safety is pleased to announce a second School Safety Academy. The second Academy will be held September 18-20, 2021 in conjunction with the Missouri School Plant Managers’ Association Conference at the Branson Convention Center. The Academy is grant-funded and will be offered to you at no cost. The curriculum will include presentations on a variety of topics that are designed to help you improve the climate in your school.
Participation in the Academy will grant designated school safety coordinators you certification as a School Safety Specialist, in accordance with school safety coordinator requirements outlined in section 160.660 RSMo. and the Missouri School Improvement Program, version 6 (MSIP 6).
Candidates for School Safety Specialist certification will be expected to attend all 20 hours of courses in this basic Academy to receive their certification. Certified School Safety Specialists will also be required to attend eight (8) hours annually of continuing education approved by Academy staff. (As this includes their first year of certification, the total training requirement for that year will be 28 credits.) MSBA’s Center for Education Safety School Safety Academy will be offering additional courses for continuing education credits, and courses from other training providers will be evaluated for credit. Certified School Safety Specialists must submit verification of all school safety and violence prevention training to the School Safety Academy staff.
This training should also be considered for School Resource Officers and School Protection Officers as outlined in section 160.665 RSMo.
Seats are still available for the Branson Academy. The application period closes March 31, 2021. If this Academy fills up, as well, applicants will be added to a waiting list for a future basic Academy.
