MSBA asks all member districts to include a brief discussion on the agenda in the next month about Board ethics. One of the proposed standards DESE will use for accreditation purposes is, “The local board and administration conduct school system business in an ethical, legal and transparent manner.”
MSBA wants to know for your Board:
1. What statements should be included in a Board ethics policy?
2. What are the practices that an ethical Board should demonstrate?
3. What would provide evidence of an ethical board and administration? What kind of proof should DESE look at to determine if your school board is acting ethically?
Please discuss this in your Board meeting and provide your answers no later than August 31st to July/August Delegate Question.
