4-21 The Senate Appropriations Committee has approved its budget proposal for the fiscal year beginning July 1 and that plan includes a slight increase in foundation formula funding. The budget now goes to the full Senate for consideration but work in the Senate stalled this week over several issues including a proposal to eliminate a tax credit for senior citizens. The House has already approved its proposed budget including a $45 million increase in the formula, which would represent full funding of the formula under current law. The House plan also includes school transportation funding at the current level. A House-Senate conference committee would have to work out any differences between the two versions of the state budget including foundation formula funding. The legislature’s deadline for approving a new state budget is May 5. If a state budget is not approved by May 5, Governor Greitens has said he may have to call a special session to deal with the budget.
